It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like...

...Christmas! Last weekend was truly holiday-filled. On Saturday we went downtown to check out the tree in Daley Plaza, uh they have really cut back this year and it is unfortunately not nearly as "plush" as it has been in the past years (think more Rockefeller Center-type tree), but it was still bright with lights and TALL, so plenty impressive for a 17 month old and that's all that really matters. Madeline got to sit on Santa's lap, she was somewhat confused with what was going on but we have been talking about him ever since so now she's comfortable enough now to just call him "Claus". She didn't cry and we got a great photo of her smiling! We walked around a bit downtown taking in the lights, decorated store windows and sipping cider, we'd like to try and do this every Christmas, we'll just have to see how the adventure changes when there's THREE kids to corral!
On Sunday we drove out to Honeybee Tree Farm north of Chicago and cut down our own Christmas tree, this is another thing we'd like to try and do every year, it was actually quite stress-free. We were able to just let Madeline run free without much worry and she really enjoyed herself. We found our "perfect" tree, brought it home and got to decorating it that night. Once it is totally complete, I'll post pictures of the final product. I bought this really cool pre-decorated kitchy wreath from Etsy, a few other ornaments from Etsy and a vintage tree topper on Ebay. I am waiting on them all to arrive and then I have a few other things to add and we should be on our way to a Chicago Strawns style Christmas, though it remains a true work in progress. I've decided to buy Christmas stuff I love as I go, so as to not just buy stuff for filler, but rather things that mean something to us as a family or are just frankly cool! I've got an ornament project for Mitzy and I to do this week, I'll post about them when completed, nothing special but still fun! So that's that, the Christmas spirit has certainly arrived here on Belmont Ave.
